Taylor Shold: Tell us a little about yourself, who are you and what do you do?
Madison Brodsky: I am just a small town girl from Tampa, Florida with a very big dream. Ever since I was a little girl, I would put on my pajamas and baby heels to watch “E! News” with my mom every night. I of course loved the glitz and the glam that I saw on TV, but more importantly, it helped me to develop a passion for entertaining through storytelling. Skip forward and I am now 21-years-old, almost graduated from the University of Arizona with 11 internships under my belt and making my “one and a million dream” of becoming an on-air entertainment reporter come true.
Taylor: We are all about networking here at SMG, how has it helped your career?
Madison: Networking is one of the two keys to success. I always thought that we are so lucky to be in America where we really do have the materials to become whatever we’d like to be. I think anyone could easily develop the talent required for an on-air position such as mine, but it will take a lot of hard work and determination. Those two amazing qualities go hand in hand with networking because as long as you’re working hard and putting yourself out there, someone will notice and will reach out. Just be careful of the people you accept offers from – do your research!
Taylor: How did you land your most recent job and how can people stand out when applying for new gigs?
Madison: I honestly just applied and got it. I think it’s important to go the extra mile to prep for an interview in order to really impress the person conducting the interview. I always tell myself that they need me just as much as I need them. Don’t be afraid to sell yourself!
Taylor: In your line of work, you get to interview some pretty famous people, what’s your secret for getting the most of out these interviews?
Madison: I try to just have conversations with the celebrities because at the end of the day, they’re just people and I want to make them feel as comfortable as possible when they’re revealing sometimes emotional topics to me.
Taylor: Who do you look up to most in this business?
Madison: It’s hard to just pick one!!! I look up to everyone who is successful and I try to learn from all of their success and mistakes, keeping in mind I also want to have my own, unique style.
Taylor: Finally, what is the best advice you’ve ever received about being successful in this industry?
Madison: Don’t stop – keep going!
